科目の目的と概要 Competence in English is important for graduate students. This is an eight-week course in which students practice reading, listening and grammar problems to help them improve their basic language abilities in these important areas. This course uses a Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) system. There are no classroom sessions, and students practice the course problems in their own time on computers at home and at school. Student progress will be monitored and evaluated by the instructors during the course. Individual assistance and instruction is available through consultation with the instructor. There is an orientation in which the course will be introduced and class guidelines will be discussed. The TOEIC-IP test will be given before and after the CALL course.
授業計画 The CALL course will begin on May 18 (Tuesday) and finish on July 20 (Tuesday). Students will do the online CALL course in their free time at school or at home over the eight-week course. The TOEIC-IP test will be given twice, before and after the CALL course. Taking both tests is mandatory.
その他の授業の工夫 To get the best results from the CALL program, and to improve their English ability, and to increase their TOEIC-IP scores, students must study at a steady pace over the eight-week CALL course.
時間外学修 Students are to do CALL, and complete 100% of the problems in each type (Reading, Grammar and Listening), on their own, in their own free time. The students are also expected to study at a steady pace over the eight-week course.
評価方法と評価割合 Student grades will be based on the following: The amount of time spent on the CALL course (30%); the percentage of CALL problems completed (30%); and the comparative results of the student’s score for both TOEIC tests (40%). Please be aware that not meeting the required course standards of time spent on the CALL course (at least five hours per week) and of percentage of CALL problems completed (100% each of reading, grammar and listening items) may result in a failing grade for this course. The students will also be evaluated on the pace of their study over the eight-week course. The method of evaluation will be explained in more detail during the orientation session.
テキスト No textbook will be used. This is an online course.
その他 CALL Schedule: May 18 (Tuesday) - July 20 (Tuesday)

TOEIC-IP Test 1 Schedule: May 19 (Wednesday), 13:00-16:30
TOEIC-IP Test 2 Schedule: July 21 (Wednesday), 13:00-16:30

Important: Please keep the test times open. For students who cannot attend the test dates because of work or conflicting class obligations, please consult with the teacher. The test can be given on other dates and times.
