The OUNHS Center Teams

OUNHS is committed to improving our local community. Our Community Outreach and Engagement Center (COEC) is playing a leading role in the advancement of nursing practice, health care and health promotion in Oita through education, research, community outreach and engagement, and industry-academia-government collaboration. It is composed of six teams that have independent areas of activity and separate team members:

The Center Teams
1) Community Support & Collaboration
2) Continuing Education
3) Nurse Practitioner Education Promotion
4) Industry - Academia - Government Promotion
5) The Academic Research Journal
6) The Health Promotion Project

The Community Support and Collaboration Team

The team works with community agencies and local governments to promote community health. It operates our preventive home visiting practicum to local older adults with community stakeholders. Students learn about community-oriented geriatric and community health nursing in this practicum. Issues found through the visits are addressed as regional challenges.

The Continuing Education Team

The team works to solve regional health issues through education and research. It sends faculty to local facilities for training sessions and guidance of staff nursing research. It provides lifelong alumni support through continuing education in basic nursing. It holds and annual Homecoming Day where our alumnae and alumni can meet and network. The team also manages an alumnae and alumni directory and employment database.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Promotion Team

The team works to provide our national government with evidence of the quality of practice of our NP course graduates. The team is the secretariat of the Japanese Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, which is establishing a standard primary and critical care NP curriculum and conducting annual NP certification examinations by third-party evaluators from Japan and abroad.

The Industry - Academia - Government Promotion (IAGP) Team

The team works to develop and produce innovative nursing related products for older adults and people with disabilities through cooperation with local industries, manufacturers, hospitals and other medical facilities. It coordinates with our faculty to start the project and assists in obtaining innovation-based patents for user-friendly products.

The Academic Research Journal Team

The team publishes the Japanese Journal of Nursing and Health Sciences (JJNHS), the first open-access nursing science journal in Japan with peer reviews. JJNHS promotes research excellence in nursing and health sciences to assist academics, clinical nurses and other health professionals. JJNHS articles are up-to-date, international, unique and informative. The journal is freely accessed at the following URL: http://jjnhs.<外部リンク>com<外部リンク>

The Health Promotion Project Team

The team works to improve our community health. It developed a health promotion system for chronic diseases of local residents, a health promotion exercise manual, and a physical fitness test battery for older adults. It also trains sports nurses and has student volunteers check the health condition and physical fitness of people at local events.
